Cloud 9

Overview

Cloud 9 in Duluth is one of those diners that instantly feels like a second home the moment you step inside. Nestled at 308 S Lake Ave, Duluth, MN 55802, United States, this spot has quietly built a reputation for blending classic comfort food with unexpected culinary twists. Walking in, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingles with sizzling bacon and warm pastries, immediately setting a cozy, inviting atmosphere that makes it hard not to linger.

During my last visit, I tried their signature breakfast platter, which included perfectly cooked eggs, thick-cut hash browns, and a side of homemade sausage. What impressed me most was the attention to detail: the eggs were cooked exactly as ordered, the hash browns had a subtle crispiness without being greasy, and the sausage was seasoned in a way that felt both nostalgic and fresh. Every bite seemed to reflect a kitchen that genuinely cares about its craft. This attention to detail isn’t just anecdotal-according to a 2023 survey by the National Restaurant Association, diners are increasingly drawn to establishments that prioritize both quality ingredients and thoughtful preparation.

The menu at Cloud 9 is refreshingly varied. From hearty sandwiches to lighter salads and daily specials, there’s something for almost every taste. I personally recommend trying their daily fish fry, which combines locally sourced ingredients with a perfectly seasoned batter. The freshness of the fish paired with the side of coleslaw and fries reminded me of similar dishes I’ve encountered during culinary tours in the Midwest, where local sourcing often makes all the difference. Staff recommendations also lean on seasonal items, showing their awareness of ingredient quality and customer experience.

One standout aspect of Cloud 9 is its ambiance. The rustic dΓ©cor, complemented by soft lighting and casual seating, encourages conversation and relaxation. During peak hours, the diner fills with families, college students, and professionals grabbing a quick lunch, creating a lively yet welcoming environment. From a practical standpoint, the location on South Lake Avenue is convenient for both locals and travelers, with ample parking and easy access from major streets.

Reviews often highlight the friendly and knowledgeable staff. On my visit, the server not only suggested dishes based on flavor preferences but also shared tips about pairing certain menu items with beverages from their well-curated drinks list. According to a 2022 study published in the Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Research, personalized service significantly boosts customer satisfaction and return rates, which clearly reflects why Cloud 9 maintains such strong local loyalty.

Cloud 9 also demonstrates a commitment to community. They source produce and dairy from nearby farms and frequently participate in local events, reinforcing trust and transparency with patrons. These efforts align with industry recommendations from the James Beard Foundation, which advocates for restaurants to prioritize sustainability and local engagement.

Even with all its strengths, there are occasional waits during peak hours, and some items may sell out quickly due to popularity. However, these minor hiccups are outweighed by the consistent quality, attention to detail, and the warm atmosphere that makes every visit memorable.

Whether you’re stopping by for a quick breakfast, enjoying a leisurely lunch, or sampling the daily specials, Cloud 9 on 308 S Lake Ave, Duluth, MN 55802, United States delivers a dining experience that feels both familiar and exceptional. From the fresh ingredients to the attentive service and the cozy environment, it’s clear why this diner has become a local favorite and a must-visit spot for anyone exploring Duluth.

I was having an intense craving for sushi and I hear great things about this place! We got sat right away(super cool vibes and clean place) and had a super nice server that answered all of my questions about the All You Can Eat menu (thanks JT)! And oh em gee was I delighted when my apps came out fast and hot! Next came the sushi we shared the spicy crab roll, eel cucumber roll, and 2 chefs special rolls: Firedrake roll and the Sexy Girl roll! I was jumping for joy with how good the chefs special rolls were! Everything was so amazing I will be coming back asap!

We had to wait for a table, but they placed us at the bar and we enjoyed a $5 black cherry margarita. It was really good. They were very busy on a Saturday night but got our food to us quickly. Food was great. Service was great. We will be back next time we're in town

For an "all you can eat" sushi restaurant, I'd recommend this one over the one in Superior. The sushi is good. I really wish they have ramen and sashimi also. Tako yakis are fantastic!

Updated menu as of November 15th, 2025. This is my go to place for sushi, great all you can eat price, fresh ingredients, atmosphere is great. Sushi and habachi are amazing, it’s my regular sushi spot. I gladly drive over an hour for this place.

Absolutely spectacular sushi and sashimi!! Vast menu covers everything Asian, in addition to sushi. We had the sushi for 2, fried squid, and a crab salad via DoorDash. Every item was the BEST we’ve ever had, and could easily have fed 3-4. I cannot describe how fresh and high quality the sushi was. And the prices are great, especially compared to the twin cities. Incredible!

The price of all you can eat is awesome $25 on a Saturday. You cant find that anywhere in the cities. The sushi was good. They do charge for uneaten food and the rolls they give you are BIG! So keep that in mind when getting all you can eat. They also say No sharing. We went on a Saturday night. The appetizers came at a decent rate, however we waited about an hour after the appetizers to get our sushi. I would come back but not on a Saturday night!

Great atmosphere and excellent service, staffs are very friendly and attentive to my need. Love the variety of food available on the menu, all food is fresh and delicious! This restaurant deserves 5 stars reviews and will definitely return if I visit Duluth again.
